Brief History About The School

The name of the school is Akomaah Memorial Educational Centre and located at Abuakwa Maakro, Kumasi. It began operations at its current address, Plot No. 39, Block B, Maakro – Kumasi.

Established on September 3, 2003, by Mr. Baafi Acheampong and Mrs. Yaa Serwaah Baafi Acheampong, the school was named in memory of the proprietor’s grandmother, Nana Ama Akomaah, who played a significant and memorable role in her extended family’s history.

The aim and objective of the founders were to:

  1. Contribute to delivery of quality Basic Education in the country
  2. To assist working class nursing mothers with the care of their children to allow them have time to attend to their various daily economic activities/business.

The school started with four (4) dwarf wall wooden structures at its present location with toilets, urinals and office property put in place on take-off. Ten (10) pioneer children started the school.

  1. Kojo Acheampong Ababio – 4 years
  2. Adwoa Serwaa Baafi – 2 years
  3. Ebenezer Obeng Kwarteng – 2 years
  4. Millicent Addai – 3 years
  5. Theresa Nyamaah Boadi – 3 years
  6. Lawrencia Kwartemaa – 2 years
  7. Sarah Achiaa – 3 years
  8. Ruth Nsia – 2 years
  9. Emmannuella Serwaah – 2 years
  10. Gabriel Mawuhorm – 1 year

Two (2) pioneer teachers started the school. Their names are:

  1. Ms. Abigail Emuah
  2. Ms Mavis

The proprietor was also there for general administration while the proprietress took care of the canteen.
